What did Jesus teach to be Saved Part 7

November 1, 2022

Matthew chapters 17-18-19

Reverence: 1 Samuel 2:3 & 30 Boast no more so very proudly, do not let arrogance come out of your mouth; for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and with Him actions are weighed. 30. Therefore the Lord God of Israel declares, I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father should walk before Me forever; but now the Lord declares, “Far be it from Me–for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me will be lightly esteemed.

Matthew 17: 1-27 Jesus Transfigured

Matthew 1:1-13 And six days latter Jesus took with Him Peter, James and John His brother, and brought them up to a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. and Peter answered and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three tabernacles here, and for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him! And when the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were much afraid. And Jesus came to them and touched them, and said, Arise, and do not be afraid. And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus Himself alone. And as they were coming down from the mountain,

(Teaching) Jesus commanded them, saying , tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man has risen from the dead. And His disciples asked Him, saying that Elijah must come first? And He answered and said, Elijah is coming and restore all things; but I say to you, that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but did to Him whatever they wished. So also the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands. Then the disciple understood the He had spoken to them about John the Baptist.

(Note) This was a major event tucked into the word transfiguration. Transfiguration was more important than Jesus’s face shining like the sun and His glowing was white as light. Jesus came into this world as a human baby. That is where Christ received His humanity. But the transfiguration is where His body was changed from an earthly body, as well as a heavenly body. The heavenly body knows no boundary when it was shinning like the sun, and His glowing were white as light, His inside body had been changed from Human like our future bodies, where we will have no sickness, need no food, we will never grow weary of our labors for Christ. One moment here the next moment, some where else. Then after the crucifixion and resurrection, He could appear on the road to Emmaus and look like a stranger to His friends. This event is huge for Christ becoming in the image of His heavenly Father. It says we will be just like Christ when we enter the kingdom of heaven.

(Note) In this event, Christ came and to show the full body and mind of the Father, because He was God in the Flesh, and He has the power to heal the sick, the down trodden, the poor in Spirit, and to watch over those who belong to Him and has all knowledge of life and death. He knows who does belong to Him, and those who do not. For our sake Christ laid down His own life for those that would believe and want Him as Savior, Thanks be to God for His plans to step into man kind, to show His love for us. Even in the darkest of days, He watches over those who do believe and those He knows will come to Him. In His eyes we are blameless, because He paid for our sins.

Matthew 17:14-20 Unbelief and faith as a mustard seed.

And when they came to the multitude, a man came up to Him, falling on his knees before Him, saying, Lord; have mercy on my son, for he is a lunatic, and is very ill; for he has fallen into the fire, and often into the water. And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him.

(Teaching) And Jesus answered and said, O unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me. And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured at once.
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, Why could we not cast it out? And He said to them, Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, move from here to there, and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible to you.
Matthew 17:22-23 Jesus’s up coming death.
And while they were gathering together in Galilee, Jesus said to them,

(Teaching) The Son Of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men; and they will kill Him, and He will be raised on the third day. And they were deeply grieved.
(Note) Jesus is starting to bring His death into their heart and mind. No details, just to let them know it was going to happen. The preparation has started.

Matthew 17:24-27 Taxes, who pays, son’s or strangers?

And when they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the two drachma tax came to Peter, and said, “does your teacher not pay the two-drachma tax?” He (Peter) said yes. And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, what do you think Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect customs or poll tax, from sons or from strangers? And upon his saying, from strangers, Jesus said to him, Consequently the sons are exempt. But,
(Teaching) lest we give them offense, go to the sea, and throw in a hook, and the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a stater. Take that and give it to them for you and Me.
(Note) We should always go the extra mile to pay what is due, because we do not want to give an offense to anyone who might think we are above paying taxes because of who we belong to. No excuses for not paying taxes.

Matthew 18:1-5 Instruction on humility

At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a child to Himself and set him before them, and said,
(Teaching) Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me.
(Note) Did you see the order, simple little faith, not trying to be ahead of another person, or I am more important than he or she is. Not putting anybody down or trying to lift self up. A child receives things at face value when they are young.

Matthew 18:6-10 Simple faith like a child.

(Teaching) Matthew 18: 6-10

But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it is better for him that a heavy millstone be hung around his neck, and drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world because of the stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes! And if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enter life crippled or lame, than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out, and throw it from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than having two eyes, to be cast into the fiery hell. See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you, that their angels in heaven continually behold the face of My Father who is in Heaven.

Matthew 18:12-14 The lost sheep

(Teaching) If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does not he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountain and go and search for the one that is straying? And if it turns out that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which have not gone astray. This it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish.

Matthew 18:15-20 Binding and loosening of an offended brother back from sin

And if your brother sins, go and reprove him in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact my be confirmed. And if he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax gatherer. Truly I say to you, whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three have gathered in My name, there I am in their midst.

Matthew 18:21-35 Jesus’s teaching on forgiveness

Then Peter came and said to Him, Lord how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times? Jesus said to him, I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. (490 times).
(Note) According to this, this would be a life time. We should not count the times somebody offends us. Forgive and move on, do not harbor any ill feelings toward anyone, if you do not forgive and move on, you are the one that will keep rewinding the problem.

(Teaching) For this reason the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a certain king who wished to settle accounts with his slaves. And when he has begun to settle them, there was brought to him one who owed him ten thousand talents. But since he did not have the means to repay, his lord commanded him be sold, along with his wife and children and all that he had, and repayment to be made. The slave therefore failing down, prostrated himself before him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will repay you everything. And the lord of that slave felt compassion and released him and forgave him the debt. But that slave went out and found one of his fellow slaves who owed him a hundred denari; and he seized him and begun to choke him. saying, pay back what you owe. So his fellow slave fell down and began to entreat him, saying, have patience with me and I will repay you. He was unwilling however, but went and threw him into prison until he should pay back what was owed. So when his fellow slaved saw what had happened, they were deeply grieved and came and reported to their lord all that had happened. Then summoning him, his lord said to him, you wicked slave, I forgave you all that debt because you entreated me. Should not you not also have had mercy on your fellow slave, even as I had mercy on you? And his lord, moved with anger, handed him over to the torturers until he should repay all that was owed him. So shall My heavenly Father also do to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from the heart.
(Note.) His lord forgave him from his heart because he entreated him. His action was the opposite to his friend than was the mans master forgave. Jesus forgives us as often as we ask His forgiveness, when we ask Him from our heart. (Jesus is ready to forgive when we ask, No strings attached.)

Matthew 19: 1-30 Teaching on Divorce.

Matthew 19-1-15

And it came about that when Jesus had finished these words, He departed from Galilee, and came into the region of Judea beyond the Jordan; and a great multitude followed Him, and He healed them there. And some of the Pharisees came to Him. testing Him, and saying, Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause at all?

(Teaching)

(Teaching) And He answered and said, have you not read, that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, for this cause a man shall leave His father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? Consequently they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.
They said to Him, why then did Moses command to give her a certificate of divorce and send her away?

He (Jesus) said to them, Because of your hardness of heart, Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way. And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery. The disciples said to Him, if the relationship of the man with his wife is like this, it is better not to marry. But Jesus said to them.

(Teaching) He said to them, Because of your hardness of heart, Moses permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it has not been this way.

(Teaching) But Jesus said, let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. And after laying His hands on them, He departed from there.

Matthew 19:16-30 The choice of a rich man, and the apostles reward

And behold, one came to Him and said, Teacher, what good things shall I do that I may obtain eternal life? And He said to him, why are you asking Me about what is good?

(Teaching) There is only One who is good, but if you wish to enter into life. Jesus was talking about God the Father.
keep the commandments. And the man asked, “which ones? And Jesus said, 1. You shall not commit murder: 2. You shall not commit adultery: 3. You shall not steal: 4. You shall not bear false witness: 5. Honor your father and mother: 6. and you shall love your neighbor as yourself. And the young man said to Him, all these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?
The rich young man realized there was something he was lacking in his life. He observed Jewish customs and laws. Christ went with him to another level of giving.

(Teaching) Jesus said to him, If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me. How did Jesus mean this statement? Give up all your riches, that encumber you and come follow Me? But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieved; for he was one who owned much property. And Jesus said to His disciples.

(Note)Jesus showed the young man that he had not fulled all that he had. The you man was unwilling to sell any of his property to give it to the poor. Then Jesus offered the young man a place next to Himself id he would sell. His wealth was more than important than being a disciple of Christ.

(Teaching) Truly I said to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
And when the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, “Then who can be saved? And looking upon them Jesus said to them, with men this is impossible,

(Teaching) But with God all things are possible. Then Peter answered and said to Him, behold, we have left everything and followed You: What then will there be for us? Wow, what a response for them

(Teaching) And Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the the twelve tribes of Israel! And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother, or children or farms for My name’s sake, shall receive many times as much, and shall inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last; and the last, first.

(Note) Who are all these people that Christ is talking about? What has come about in you is God’s Spirit has talked to you and stirred the need to help some one else. What ever comfort one has left behind to serve Christ in some type of ministry. Missionaries, people who volunteer their expertise to help build water systems, or to teach school in a impoverished country. One will have a reward from Christ for being a Sunday school teacher, because you have become an example to your students. And you will never know if what you said to one of those students who went to the mission field, in some type of work to help people. If you promote Christ, there is a reward for you of some kind. Sometimes your reward will not come until Christ returns and sets up His kingdom on earth and reins for a thousand years. The immediate satisfaction will be in your life on earth, that you stepped out to do something for Christ and His coming kingdom.

Ask Christ into you heart, start reading your bible, if you do not have one, get one, buy one, if you cannot afford one ask a church for one, a friend, read, read and read for the rest of your life. The more you read, you will understand more of Jesus’s plan for your life. then ask Him what can I do to help even a little now? His word will come to you and speak to you, and ask Him to enlarge your border, keep repeating and doing this over and over, and in due time you will be acknowledged by Christ for a job well done. Then you will understand how Christ works in one’s life, and you will be thankful.

Teaching equals the words of Christ. A note, is one of my thoughts.
