What did Jesus teach to be Saved article 6
Reverence: Job 34:12-15 Know this Surely, God will not act wickedly, and the almighty will not pervert justice. Who gave Him authority over the whole world? And who laid on Him the whole world? If He should determine to do so, if He should gather to Himself His Spirit and His Breath, all flesh would perish together, and man would return to dust.
Matthew 14: 1-36 The authority of Christ, over every situation
Matthew 1-13
At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the news about Jesus, and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist, he has risen from the dead; and that is why miraculous powers are at work in Him.”
For when Herod had John arrested, he bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip. For John had been saying to him, it is not lawful for you to have her.” And although he wanted to put him to death, he feared the multitudes, because they regarded him as a prophet. But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod. There upon he promised with an oath to give her what ever she asked. “And having been prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.” And although he was grieved, the king commanded it to be given because of his oaths, and because of his dinner guests. And He sent and had John beheaded in the prison. And his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl; and she brought it to her mother. And His disciples came and took away the body and buried it; and they went and reported to Jesus. Now when Jesus heard it, He withdrew from there in a boat, to a lonely place by Himself; and when the multitudes heard of this, they followed Him on foot from the cities.
Matthew 14:14-21 Jesus heals a multitude of people and feeds 5,000 men, plus women and children.
And when He went ashore, He saw a great multitude, He felt compassion for them, and He healed their sick. And when it was evening, the disciples came to Him, saying, the place is desolate, and the time is already past; so send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves. But Jesus said to them, (Teaching) “They do not need to go away; you give them something to eat.” And they said to Him, we have here only five loaves and two fish. And Jesus said, “Bring them to Me.” And ordering the multitudes to recline on the grass, He took the fives loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food, and breaking the loaves He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave to the multitudes, and they all ate, and were satisfied. And they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, (12) twelve full baskets. And there were about five thousand men who ate, aside from women and children.
Matthew 14:22-33 And immediately He made the disciples get into the boat, and go ahead of Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And after He had sent the multitudes away, He went to the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone. But the boat was already many stadia away from the land, battered by the waves; for the wind was contrary. (Teaching) And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were frightened, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid,” And Peter answered Him and said,
(Teaching) Lord, if it is you, command me to come to You on the water.” And Jesus said, “come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on water and came toward Jesus. But seeing the wind, he became afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord save me!” (Peter forgot Jesus had invited Him to be like Him.) And Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind stopped. And those who were in the boat worshiped, saying, “You are certainly God’s Son!”
Matthew 14:34-36 Jesus heals in the land of Gennesaret.
(And when they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret. And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent into all that surrounding district and brought to Him all who were sick; and then they began to entreat Him that they might just touch the fringe of His cloak; and as many as touched it were cured.)
The land of Gennesaret is on the N.W. side of the Sea of Galilee. The Gaderenes are on the east side of the Sea of Galilee. With Jesus moving around the Sea of Galilee, it would have been hard not to hear about Jesus. Especially when the land of the Gaderenes was a gentile nation, and the only time Jesus went to a gentile nation. When Jesus started healing many of the people from around the Sea of Galilee, people would cross the lake to see Jesus and be healed. Isn’t this the reason Jesus came, to call all the lost, Jew and gentile. Also the woman that came on behalf of her sick daughter, the dialogue between the two, in the end Jesus said your faith is great, let it be done as you have believed.
Matthew 15:1-20 Jesus interacts with religious leaders on what they believe and teach.
Then some Pharisees and Scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem, saying, why do your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders. For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.
(Teaching) And Jesus answered and said to them, and why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?
(Teaching) For God said, Honor your Father and Mother, and, He who speaks evil of Father and mother, let him be put to death. But you say, whoever shall say to his father and mother, anything of mine you might have been helped by has been given to God. He is not to honor his father or his mother. (Teaching) Thus you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition. You hypocrites, rightly did Isiah prophesy of you saying, this people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far away from Me with their lips. But their heart is far away from Me. But in vain do they worship Me, teaching the doctrines and the precepts of men.
This section of scripture, Jesus is saying. which should you believe, what men teach, that in mans tradition of teaching of God, take power from the word of God, and giving it to themselves. Or, is it better to listen to Me on behalf of My Father who gave the commands.
And after He called the multitude to Him, He said to them. (Teaching) “Hear, and understand. It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man. Then the disciples came and said to Him, do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement?
(Teaching) But Jesus answered and said, every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be rooted up. Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit. And Peter answered and said to Him, explain the parable to us. A He said, “Are you still lacking to understand also? (Teaching) Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. For out of the heart come evil thoughts murders, adulteries, fornication’s, thefts, false witness, slanders. These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.
Matthew 15:21-28 Even gentiles believe and are healed by Jesus, by His words alone, and faith.
And Jesus went away from there, and withdrew into the district of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a canaanite woman out from the region, and began to cry out, saying, “have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is cruelly demon possessed.” But Jesus did not answer her a word. And His disciples came to Him and kept asking Him, saying, “send her away, for she is shouting out after us.” But He answered and said, I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. But she came and began to bow down before Him saying, “Lord, help me!” And he answered and said, “it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” But she said, Yes Lord; but even the dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. (Teaching) Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; be it done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed at once.
Jesus continues to show mercy on many and heals them, even gentiles that have faith.
Matthew 15:29-31 Jesus continues healing of the common people.
And departing from there, Jesus went along the sea of Galilee, and having gone up to a mountain He was sitting there. And a great multitude came to Him, bringing with those who were lame, crippled, blind, dumb, and many others, and they laid them down at His feet, and He healed them, so the multitude marveled as they saw the dumb speaking, the crippled restored, and the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.
Matthew 15:32-39 Jesus, again shows the people His compassion towards them.
And Jesus called His disciples to Him, and said, (Teaching) “I feel compassion for the multitude, because they have remained with me now three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not wish to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.” And the disciples said to Him, where would we get so many loaves in a desolate place to satisfy such a great multitude?. And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, seven, and a few small fish. And, ******
(Teaching) Jesus directed the multitude to sit down on the ground; and He took the seven loaves and several fish; and giving thanks, He broke them and started giving them to the disciples, and the disciples in turn, to the multitudes, And they all ate, and were satisfied, and they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, seven large baskets full. And those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. And sending away the multitudes, He got into the boat, and came to the region of Magadon.
(Note)The first feeding had 5 loves and two fish, feed 5000 men, plus woman and children. The second feeding had 7 loaves and several fish. 4000 men were feed, plus women and children. When the people were in need, Jesus in His compassion for the poor, and needy. Pharisees and Scribe could only see and complain about Jesus disciples eating grain with dirty hands. Now we have the second group of leaders coming to Jesus to complain some more. and they said!
Matthew 16:1-4 Jesus interacts with more relifious leaders on what they believe and teach.
And the Pharisees and the Sadducees came up, and testing Him asked Him to show them a sign from heaven. But He answered said to them, When it is evening you say, it will be fair weather, for the sky is red. And in the morning, there will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening. (Teaching) Do you know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times? “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah. And He left them, and went away”.
What was the sign of Jonah? Jonah was three days three days and three nights in the belly of the whale. It was a parable for the Pharisees and the Sadducees. It was telling them that Jesus would be in the grave for three days and three nights. Jonah 1:17, Matthew 17:23
Note. The Pharisees did believe there would be a resurrection. The Sadducees did not believe there would be a resurrection.
Matthew:16:5-12 Jesus teaches His disciples on what the religious leaders teach.
And the disciples came to the other side and had forgotten bread. (Teaching) And Jesus said to them, “Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” And they began to discuss among themselves, saying, it is because we took no bread. But Jesus, aware of this said. “You men of little faith, why do you discuss among yourselves that you have no bread? Do you not understand or remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many large baskets you took up? Or the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up? How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? But beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Then they understood that He did not say beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. (Teaching) I say you are Peter , and upon this rock I will build My church: and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and what ever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Then He warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ. Jesus left His disciples there work and all that would follow after them, to start filling Christ kingdom with believers in Christ and God. to the start filling Christs kingdom.
Matthew 16:13-20 Jesus to His disciples, who do you say that I am. Many of the common people were guessing who Jesus was, and they were saying Elijah, Jeremiah, John the Baptist, or one of the other prophets. Jesus then directs the question to the disciples, Only Peter speaks and says, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Christ calls Peter a rock, that will build His church.” Christ saw in Peter a steadfastness in Peters statement. In his statement, Jesus knew Peter would never stray in message of Christ as the Son of the living God. Peter was Christ’s rock in starting the church of Jesus Christ. At Pentecost, the day the church was starting Peter stood up and said what the kingdom of Christ was all about and how it would work. Because Peter recognized Christ for who He is, Christ gave him the key to the kingdom of heaven.
What is it, to bind on earth, then it will be bound in heaven?
Christ said that they would have important roles to play. But Peter would be given the keys to the kingdom of heaven. In time past, the noble trusted his stewards to have control of the keys of the master. Now Peter would have hold the power to bind people or loose people by the directions from heaven. Another way to say this is, Peter has the authority to keep people out of Christ’s kingdom, bind them until they were doing things correctly.
Matthew 16:21-26 Jesus starts teaching His disciple of His coming crucifixion.
(Teaching) From that time, Jesus Christ began to show the disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and be raised on the third day.
“And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him saying, God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You.” But Jesus turned and said , to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan!
(Teaching) You are a stumbling block to Me. For you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.” Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it: but whoever loses his life for My sake shall find it. For what a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
What does this mean, those that lose their life for ( the cause of Christ). Lose of life in witnessing about Christ to other peoples, and nations, a missionary. About 160,00 missionaries lose their lives every year for being a witness of Christ. Revelation 20
Matthew 16:27-28 The second coming of Christ.
“For the Son of man is going to come in the glory of His Father with the angels; and will then recompense every man according to his deeds. Truly I say to you, there are some here who shall not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.
