Article 8  Why do we need a Savior?  And Who is He?

The Just shall live by faith!

Coming up to Christmas, and the birth of Christ, I thought it would be interesting to cover the history of sins and customs since creation and man was put upon the face of the earth.  We will go through the ages to see how God worked in creation with man and with His chosen people Israel.  How God told Israel there would be a Messiah to come and save them.  God has always wanted Israel and ma kind to recognize Him as Holy and being the creator of this planet and everything on it.  God wants us to believe that He is who He says He is.  He forgives our sins, but most notable and what God teaches us is He is always there when we call on Him, think, pray or praise Him.  We will cover satans fall and God’s pronouncement of his place at the end of time.  God chose in the beginning that people would come to Him voluntarily, or choose satan.  We may not verbally say I choose satan, but by our own words or the lack of words, we are denying Christ over time, and we are in satans camp.

What was the sin of Adam and Eve.

When God had placed Adam in the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.  Then God out of the ground of the earth made all the beasts of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to Adam to name, and what ever Adam called them, that was their names.  Then, God put Adam into a deep sleep, took one of his ribs and fashioned Eve, and brought her to Adam.  Then God said that for this cause a man shall leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife, and become one flesh.  Adam and Eve were naked and not ashamed.  Genesis 2:15-25   Noe God commanded the man saying “FROM ANY TREE IN THE GARDEN YOU MAY EAT FREELY, BUT FROM THE TREE OF KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL YOU SHALL NOT EAT, FOR IN THAT DAY THAT YOU EAT FROM IT YOU SHALL SURELY DIE”.  Genesis 2:15,16  God said, Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made, the serpent said to Eve,  God has said, “YOU SHALL NOT EAT FROM ANY TREE OF THE GARDEN”.  Genesis 3:1   And the woman said to the serpent, “FROM THE FRUIT OF THE TREES OF THE GARDEN WE MAY EAT; BUT FROM THE FRUIT OF THE TREE WHICH IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GARDEN, GOD SAID, YOU SHALL OT EAT IT OR TOUCH IT LEST YOU DIE”.  Genesis 3:2,3  And the serpent said to the woman, surely you shall not die, but God knows in the day you eat from it, you shall be like God knowing good and evil  Genesis 34,5

The sin they committed was,  1. Disobedience, because they disobeyed God’s word and thought they were going to receive something from the serpent that God had not offered.  Also satan put doubt  in her mind, that God had not told them everything.  Eve lied to the serpent and to herself to gain something she knew nothing about, wisdom.  The average person does not understand the subtle steps of evil.  3. Deception, Adam and Eve deceive themselves be eating the apple evil through disobedience.  Did Adam so quickly forget that God used him after creation by naming the beast, birds and animals.  The problem that Adam ad Eve faced at the beginning, is still exactly  what we face in this day and age.  Adam and Eve were new sinners.  I ca remember Billy Graham saying once in one of His crusades, that there are no new sins, but new sinners.  The other thought and the most likely would be, that it was part of God’s plan to get mans attention, that God has every answer to every question ad action that man is confronted with.  God is good, and evil exists, be evil people who want to lie, steal, murder, etc..  If evil people exist, they have to have a leader, satan is his name.  The world has become complacent about not confronting certain types of evil.  All you have to do is read the bible ad see that the prophets went through, many were killed because they continually brought God’s standards into the open people to ear.  The 12 disciples went though the same trials and tribulation.  A few years ago I read that on the average about 100,000 missionaries are killed every year in the world because they try to bring the light of the world into dark places.  They want to tell people of the saving grace of God through Jesus Christ.  Evil people do not want other people to hear the message of Christ.

Jeremiah 17:9  “For the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperatley wicked: who can know it?

The serpent was also admonished and judgment rendered on him by God.  There are may names in the bible for the serpent- Genesis 3:4, satan- Luke 10:18, the devil, evil one- Matthew 13:19, deceiver- Revelation 12:9, father of lies- john 8:44, adversary- 1 Peter 5:9, abaddon- Revelation 9:11, accuser- Revelation 9:11, belial- 2 Corinthians 6:15, god of this world- 2 Corinthians 4:4, ruler of demons- price of the power of the air- Ephesians 2:2.  If we have ad adversary, we also have a advocate, in the name of Jesus Christ.  We will cover what each name means.  satan already knows what his fate is.  Only the people that worship the devil understand the evil that goes on in satan worship.  In Genesis 3:14 And the Lord God said to the serpent, “because you have done this, cursed are  you more than all the cattle , and more than every beast of the field:  On your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life”.  The only question remains is how many people will go with him into the pit of hell.  Another way to look at hell, it is an actual place that has the absence of light.  This is the place people will go that have refused the call of God, the light of the world.  If God is light, a place without light is darkness.  The other thing we have to remember is satan is a fallen angel that left his abode because of his ego.  satan is not all knowing like God, he is not present everywhere like God.  Will you be entrapped by Him?  He has to ask God to tempt a believer.  Jesus said the we are not at war with each other, but prices, and principalities.  James 1:13-15  “Let no one say when he is tempted, I am being tempted by God, for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.  But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust”. So, our own lusts are a part of our ow down fall.  This is why we need a savior.  satan is trying to usurp God’s authority, His sovereignty, tempting Adam and Eve and acting against God’s wisdom and authority.

Cain and Able, the sons of Adam and Eve.  Genesis 4:1-15

How much of the trouble that the parents had with God, effect how the sons interacted with God.

Cain was the tiller of the ground, a farmer.   Abel was a keeper of flocks, a rancher.

When Abel took his offering to God, he took part of his yearlings of his flock ad some fat portions.  The Lord had regard for Abels offering.  When Cain took his offering, God had no regard for his offering.  Knowing God, it was not Cains offering that was the concern, but Cains attitude in which he came.  Cain became angry and his countenance fell.  Then God said to Cain, why are you angry, “if you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; its desire is for you, but master it”.  I have a picture i my mind, that when Cain saw the offering of Abel ad God’s acceptance of it, when He turned to Cain, be became angry, because he became defensive.  When God said it’s desire is for you, but master it.  God wants us to learn how to handle disappointments and rejection.  If we never deal with our anger it is crouching at the door to devour us.  We must search our selves to discover the source of the anger and deal with it in steps.  Anger not dealt with, will control you until you learn.  God is willing to help, just ask.  If you do not deal with it,  you will be watching what other people will be giving, and then become disappointed with you offering and get angry again.  It is not what you brig to God, but the spirit in which you bring, and is it your best?  I heard a long time ago, have an attitude of gratitude in giving.  Cain did not agree and was unwilling to do what God had said.  This lead to Cain killing his brother Abel, and then being driven away from his family and from God.  God has never made an error or a mistake.  God’s judgments are exact and true with no bias or malice.  Are there any lessons that we can learn from this and apply to our life.  Praise Jesus that we have His Spirit to help us.

The next area of sin in the world occurred when the ungodly multiplied o the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them.  Then the sons of God saw that they were beautiful, and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.  Then God said “My spirit shall not always strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be 120 years old.  Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.  Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time, Noah walked with God.  Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham and Japeth.  The earth was corrupt in the sight of the Lord and full of violence.  The God said to Noah, the end of all flesh has come before me.  Make for yourself a ark of gopher wood.  Make the ark 450′ long, 75′ high, 45′ high.  Make rooms in the ark and make it 3 it stories tall, I will bring a flood upon the earth to destroy all flesh in which their is breathe of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish.  Bring 7 each of all the clean animals, male and female, and of the unclean animals bring them one female and male.  The flood did destroy everything upon the face of the earth that was not on the ark.  When the flood receded, the ark came to rest on Mt. Ararat in modern day Turkey.  They will not allow any exploration for the ark.  God in His time frame will reveal the ark, and that will verify the biblical event of the flood.  God brought the Godly people through the flood on the ark.  When Noah exited the ark, He built a alter to the Lord God.  Then Noah took of every clean animals and the birds and offered burnt offerings on the alter.  Then God smelled the the soothing aroma, and the Lord said to Himself, “I will never again curse the ground on account of man’s heart is evil from His youth; I never kill every living thing, as I have done.  God blessed Noah and his family and said to them,  be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.  Genesis chapters 6,7,8,9.  The sign God gave that there would never be a world wide flood is the rainbow.  From Noahs three sons and their wives and children they made many people, and they all had the same language.  God came down a changed one language to many and dispersed them through out the world.

The Sin of Nadab and Abihu  Leviticus 10:1-3

Nadab and  Abihu were sons of Aaron.  God chose Aaron to be Priest after Israel left Egypt and camped at Mt. Sinai.  It was a custom that started there that the sons would move into the position of their father.  In the Leviticus it says that a priest had to be 30 years of age.  On this occasion, Nadab, and Abihu were standing with their respective fire pans, and after putting fire in them, they placed incense on it ad offered strange fire before the Lord, which He (God) had not commanded them.  And fire came out  from the presence of the Lord, and they died before the Lord.  Then Moses said to Aaron, it is what the Lord spoke, saying, “By those who come near me I will be treated as Holy, and before all the people I will be honored.  So Aaron therefore kept silent.  You have to ask yourself, had Aarons sons seen Aaron make the Golden Calf for Israel to worship since Israel felt that Moses had been gone to long to meet with God. When Moses entered the camp ad Moses saw the Golden calf, Moses ground the calf into dust and scattered it.  If they saw their father do this and nothing happened to him, if they did the strange fire, God wouldn’t do anything to them either.  What they weren’t counting on is the presence of the Lord was there watching what was being done.  Again we have disobedience and a lack of respect and honor to the Lord God.  If you are near to me you had better treat me as Holy.

God’s basic requirements of Obedience  Leviticus 26:1-2

You shall not make for yourselves idols, or shall you set up for your selves and image or a sacred pillar, nor shall you place a figured stone in your land to bow down to it; for I am the Lord you God.  You shall keep mu Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary; I am the Lord.

God’s conditions and results of obedience.  Leviticus 26:3-13

If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments so as to carry them out, “then I shall give you rains in their season.  The land will yield its produce, the trees of the field will bear their fruit, your threshing will last until the grape gathering, and that will last till sowing time.  You shall live securely in the land.  I shall grant peace in the land.  I shall eliminate harmful beasts from your land.  You will chase your enemies and before you they will fall be the sword.  I will turn you and make you fruitful and multiply you and confirm my covenant with you.  I will make my dwelling among you, and My soul will not reject you.  I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be my people.  I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, so you should be not their slave, and I broke the bars of your yoke and made you walk up erect.

Conditions and results of disobedience.   Leviticus 26: 14-39

But if you obey Me and not carry out these commandments, if instead, you reject My statutes, and of your soul abhors My ordinances so as not to carry out My commandments, and so break My covenant, I will appoint over you sudden terror.  And I will set My face against you so that you shall be struck down before your enemies; and those who hate you, and you flee when no one is pursuing you.  If also after these things, you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more than your sins.  If then, you act with hostility against Me and are unwilling to obey me, I will increase the plague on you seven times according to your sins.  I will let loose among you the beasts of the field.  If you act with hostility toward Me, I will act with hostility toward you.  I will bring upon you a sword which will execute vengeance for the covenant.  I will bring pestilence among you.  Yet if in spite of this, you do not obey Me,, but act with hostility to Me, then I will act with wrathful hostility against you.  I then will destroy your high places, I will lay waste your cities as well, and scatter you among the nations and will draw out the sword against you.  Then the land will enjoy its Sabbaths all the days of desolation, while you are in your enemies land; the the land will rest and enjoy the Sabbaths.  At Mt. Sinai, Moses gave the Sabbath year law.  Leviticus 25:3-25   Six years you shall sow your field, six years you shall prune your vineyard and gather crops, but during the seventh year the land shall have a Sabbath rest, a Sabbath to the Lord, you shall not sow your field or prune your vineyard.  You are to count off seven Sabbaths of years, namely 49 years.  On the 50th year, and proclaim a release through the land to all the inhabitants.  It shall be a jubilee for you, each of you shall return to his own property, and each of you shall return to his family.  You shall not do anything on the year of jubilee.  On the 50th year, anybody who had  bought property from another Israelite, that property would go back to the original owner.  This is how God wanted this to work.  Why, because God brought them out of the land Egypt as slaves,  He never wanted them to be slaves to their own countryman.  This is the reason God sent the Chaldean’s to conquer Israel in 586 BC.  They were lead into captivity for 70 years, one year for each year that Israel did not keep the Sabbath days rest.  When God says He is slow to anger, and has abundant mercies, you can see how patient God was with His people.

God wanted Israel to turn to Him so He could bless them.  They never wanted to stop the idol worship, they made them out of wood, stone, silver and Gold, and with the land Sabbath rests, God had had enough.  You can see the disobedience and their lack of wanting God to rule over them.

Due to the length of this, I will stop here.  Will finish this before Christmas.  They know about Messiah, They are in their land again.  With no idol worship.
