The Voice of God Article 5

September 15, 2015

There are many voices that we listen to every day.  Our friends, our children, wife’s, husbands, mothers, fathers other family members, doctors, attorneys and work place colleagues.  People say they hear voices in their head that tells them to do things, to themselves or to others.  there are voices of spirits, that inhabit people.  There is only one voice of God and Christ.  Sometimes it takes time to learn the voice of God.  There is a book in the bible called Samuel.  In 1 Samuel it talks about Samuel as a baby, that his mother dedicated him to God even before she had conceived. The family was to appear before God every year.  But this year, Hannah said to her husband, she did not want to go until the baby had been weaned, then she would take Him to the Temple to appear before God  and then he would stay there forever.  A number of years later, after Samuel had gone to bed, he heard a voice say “Samuel”, and he went to Eli the priest and asked if he had called, and Eli said no, go back to bed.  This happened three times when Eli realized that God was calling Samuel.  Eli told Samuel to go back to bed and when he heard the voice calling his name again answer  Him.  Then the Lord came and called like other times,”Samuel, Samuel”, and Samuel said “speak for thy servant is listening”.  Samuel accepted the way of the Lord, and be accepting Christ into your heart, you can talk to Him because you accepted Him.  In Dueteronomy 13:4 says, “You shall follow the Lord your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him”.  In Isaiah 28:23 it says “Give ear and hear My voice, listen to My words”.  Reading your bible will help you to understand God’s voice and His son Jesus Christ.  If you never read, how are you going to learn His voice, and how He wants to help you in your life.

Three weeks ago I was set to write that God is light of the world.  The Lord’s voice within me changed that and wanted me to write on the voice of God.  Since I had just finished the Love of God.  God impressed upon me that the Love of God and the Voice of God is like a glove and a hand.  The glove fits perfectly over the hand.  The Voice of God helps wrap the Love of God into a life changing adventure.  If you do not have the Love of God, you do not have the Voice of God.

Who is God speaking too?  Proverbs 8:4, 7, “To you O men, I call, and my voice is to the sons of men”, “for my mouth will utter truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips”.  Even though God had taken Israel as His own, He was calling all of Mankind to Himself.  The City of Nineveh in the old Assyrian empire, had several hundred thousand people in it was saved when God sent Jonah to tell them of the coming judgment if they did not repent.  They repented.  This is still the message today, repent and turn to Christ, for judgment is coming in a day and a time you do not expect.  “Behold, thou dost desire truth in the inner most being, and in the hidden part thou wilt make me know wisdom”. Psalm 51:6   We need a savior to show us that left to ourselves we would always turn to evil without a moral compass, God’s word.  Then we receive all the other benefits that is offered by our faith.  In listening to the voice of God, it will take many different forms.  You can be reading His word and He might give you a better understanding of some scripture you have read for years.  He may enlighten you on a passage of scripture your are reading.  Or, He may challenge you for what you may believe about Him.  You should not just believe what somebody is saying without checking the bible to see if it is true.  Praying about what you read is an important part of learning God’s voice.  To me, there is another part of His voice, I call this, conversation.  Conversation is you asking Him about a concern you have about a certain subject, or thought.  If you think He gets tired of hearing from you, boy, are you wrong.  He loves your voice.  He knows that you want to be personal with Him.  You will tell Him everything on your heart, then you wait for Him to talk back to you.  What a joy when you hear His voice in return.  It is truly amazing that the creator of the universe and Jesus God’s son who hung on a cross for my sin, would be interested in having a personal relationship with me.

The voice of Christ says about those that believe in Him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber.  But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep.  To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear His voice, and He calls His own sheep by name, leads them out.  When He puts forth all His own, He goes before them, and the sheep follow Him because they know His voice.  And a stranger  they will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers”.  John 10:1-5

Early this morning the voice of the Lord started talking to me.  What He was talking to me about is this.  He reminded me that with this the fifth article, that I have written, I have not mentioned the reverence or respect and awe we are to have toward God and His son Jesus Christ.  On order to hear God’s voice, you need to understand what it means to be in His presence.  God is Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of Hosts, the whole earth is filled with His glory.  Isaiah 6:3  Knowing and understanding this should cause us to have reverence, respect, and awe for Him.  As we enter His presence in prayer we are to be thankful for who He is.  Psalm 100:4,5, “Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise.  Give thanks to Him; bless His name.  Foe the Lord is good, His lovingkindness is everlasting, and His faithfulness to all generation”.  God never lies to us but He only speaks truth to us.  With all the humility you can muster, enter in, You can trust Him.          More in the next article.

I can remember when I dedicated my life to God.  I did not understand Jesus, or the Holy Spirit.  I asked Him to show me what I needed to know from the Bible.  I asked Him to be my teacher.  I can say, because I was willing to read my bible every night, He was faithful to teach me what I needed to know.  I still depend upon Him to teach me more.  I love church, but it is only an hour or so every week.  With my bible, He still is guiding me through His word.  His guidance is for a life time.  No matter how long I read and study, I will never know all that there is to know about God.
