God is Love 8-11-15 Article 5

August 12, 2015

It is my goal to let God speak for Himself about His Love.  Gods word is easy to read, He tells you what you need to know, and you can understand what He says.

Revelation 3:19 says, “The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love”.

Revelation 5:3 says, “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome”.  John 13:34 says, A new commandment I give you, that you love one another, even as I love you, that you also love one another”.  Romans 13:10 says, love does no wrong to a neighbor; love therefore is the fulfillment of the law”.  In John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no man than this, that one lay down his life for his friends”.  Jesus said in Mark 12:30 “and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength”.  From this study I have learned that many verses tell us about the love of God.  It is equally surprising that Christ wants us to turn the love He gives us, and give it to other people in the form action and helping others.  But there are many more that say, love your neighbor as yourself, love those who hate you,  if someone hits you on the cheek, turn the other too.  If one takes your cloak, offer him your coat also.  If one commands you to walk a mile with him, walk with him two miles.  It is only fitting that Jesus wants us to act in the same manner as He does.  Christ says that they hated me before they hated you.  Look at what Christ offers man, and man snubs his nose at Jesus, takes His name in vain, but look what happens, Jesus keeps on loving them.  The ultimate love that we have is in John 3:16,  “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life”.  Romans 5:8 says “But God demonstrates His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ dies for us”.  Romans 5:5 says, “and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within the hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us”.    In Ephesians 2:4,5 says “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love, with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions made us alive together with Christ”.

2 Corinthians 6:6 says, “In purity, in knowledge, in patience, in kindness,in the Holy Spirit, in genuine love”.  2 Corinthians 13:11 says, “Finally brethren, rejoice, be made complete, be like-minded, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you”.    Christ has given us His love to us, so we can be more like Him, act like Him, forgive like Him.

Now that we have read all these verses several times, right, how do we do this.  How do we put all this together.  Well, Jesus did it for us.

1 Corinthians 13:1-13

The apostle Paul was speaking, “Though I speak with the tongues of men and angels, and have not love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging Cymbal.  And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.  And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and I deliver my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.  Love is patient, love is kind, and love is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, love does not act unbecomingly, love does not seek its own, love is not provoked, love does not take into account a wrong suffered, love does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but love rejoices with the truth; love bears all things, love believes all things, love endures all things.  Love never fails, but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease, if there is knowledge, it will be done away.  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.  But when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.  But when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.  When I was a child, I used to speak as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.  For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I shall fully just as I also have been fully known.  But now abide faith, hope, love, these three;but the greatest of these is love”.

What I have learned over time is, you cannot ask, demand, command someone to love you.  Especially, if you were a person that started the unloving action in the first place.  This is where all credibility is lost.  You cannot get another person to change their mind even if you are changing.  Christ Jesus surrounded me with His love, He helped me to change myself apart from or regardless of what the other person thinks of you. You have to focus on what Jesus is doing in you.  Only Jesus can change the mind of another person.  But, that person hurt by your words and actions can say no, I am done, regardless of how you have changed.  If the other person is willing, God will work in both of you.  The only constant love you have is Christs.  The other thing you have to remember is you may have many people who will never believe that you can or have changed.  At times you will only have the Love of Christ holding you up and moving you along.  I say Christ came along, picked me up dusted me off and said follow me.  I accepted His invitation.  He will keep working with you no matter how long it takes.  That is love.  In Psalm 86:15,  “But thou, O Lord, art a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness and truth”.  It also takes constant reading and praying on your part for this to work.  Isn’t God’s love great.  Amen, and Amen.
