1. Background of the Living God

To introduce you to the living God and Jesus Christ, I would like to have you think about several things before we get to that point.  Have you ever read a biography written be other people about another person.  The book tells you about this famous person or a philanthropist.  The book tells you where he came from, what he had then and what he has now.  What he did to earn all his money or fame, the persons life work that made him famous.  The Bible is God’s biography, it is written by many men that God chose to reveal Himself to us.  It is the Spirit of the Living God that communicates with His created flesh, man.  Through the Spirit that He has given man, God can talk to us.  Remember that God never contradicts His word in talking to us.  This should show us how much God loved His creation, and put man in charge of it.  In the beginning you read how and what God made, the heavens and the earth, all creatures, human beings, plants, and gravity to keep us on this planet.  Then you have God starting to interact with man, His creation.  Some men listened to God and acted upon what God had asked them to do and the places they were supposed to go.  His word tells you about civilizations that have come and gone because of their sin against God.  In the Bible you always have the past, the present, and the future mingled through the whole Bible.  Unless you are young, when you come to Christ, your past most often than not, is dealt with first.  While this is going on, He starts working on the present and the future.  This is what happens when you read God’s word.  It will always be based on how much you want to read and how much you want to learn.  He will communicate with you the same way you communicate with Him.  He will never ask you to do more than you can handle at the time.  The word goes through the commandments, essentials of believing and talking to God, the talks about attitudes, and behaviors that are presented to you in a way you will understand.  Then He gives what will happen to the people on the earth and their rebellion on earth because of the hated rule of Christ.  Many men do not want to submit to the rule of the Holy Lord.  Their life without a moral compass is fine to them.  If they acknowledge that there is a God, they would have to acknowledge that their sin and belief system is wrong and have to admit and submit to the living God.

1. He is the Living God

Psalms 84:2 says “My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the Living God”.  In Jeremiah 10:10 says, “But the Lord is the true God, He is the Living God and everlasting King”.  In Daniel 6:26-27 Dairius King of Persia says, “I make a decree that in all the domain of my kingdom men are to fear and tremble before the God of Daniel, for He is the Living God and enduring forever, and His kingdom is one that will not be destroyed and His domain will be forever.  He delivers, rescues, performs signs and wanders in heaven and on earth, who also delivered Daniel from the power of the Lions”.  God says, mans gods are made of wood, gold, silver and clay.Their ears cannot hear, their eyes cannot see, and they cannot speak.  They are dumb idols.  Compare them to the Living God who can hear you pray, hear you sing, hear you curse, see you in despair and need, He sees your coming in and going out and what you do.  The Living God speaks to you directly.  He speaks to you through your Spirit, that He has given you to acknowledge Him.  The Living God puts Himself into the middle of mans affairs in hope of helping man with the decisions that he makes and does.  A dumb idol could not set up or rule over a nation, or depose a ruler of a nation.  God rules by His word, His words are truth, justice and righteousness.  In Joshua 3:10 it says, “And Joshua said, by this you shall know that the Living God is among you, and that He will assuredly dispossess from you the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Hivite, the Perizzite, the Gergashite, the Ammorite, and the Jebusite”.  The Living God determines who stays and reigns and who goes.  This is done again by His truth, justice and and righteousness.  Do we have any of these qualities in our life to help us to make these kinds of good decisions?  In Matthew 16:16 says “And Simon Peter answered and said, thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God”.  Then in John 6:51 says, “I am the Living Bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he shall live forever; and the bread also which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh”.  In Hebrews 9:14 says, “how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the Living God”,  Before His crucifixion, Jesus  was beaten with a whip on His back, a crown of thorns was placed on His head.  Jesus Christ hung on the cross for our sin, He had nails driven through His hands and feet.  He bleed and died that through Him and by Him we may have Salvation in Him, Jesus was the sinless man.  In Luke 20:38 it says, “Now He is not the God of the dead, but the living, for all live to Him”.  Then in Hebrews 10:31, “It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the Living God”.  When men die their decision making process has ended.  Man cannot go back and change anything from their life.  And, nobody can go back for them.  Somebody cannot pray somebody else into heaven that has never accepted the Lord Jesus Christ.  In Hebrews 9:27 “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this the judgement”.  Please notice, death, then judgement.  At this point you are either a believer or unbeliever in Christ.  If you are a believer, your Spirit returns to Christ until He returns.  It will only be terrifying if you do not believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

In 1966 Time Magazine wrote an article about Fredrick Nietzsche saying that God is dead.  Nietzsche was born in 1844 and died when he was 59 years old.  He did a satire on why he thought God was dead.  His premise was that the men of his age group were not interested in any kind of belief system.  He felt that God was dead in their hearts and minds.  They killed God because of their indifference and cultural shift away from a foundation of Christian morals. Nietzsche was raised in a strict religious home. He thought is was repressive and harmful.  He thought that the people would be happier being joyful and healthy when not living in narrow limits set by faith and concerns for the individual’s eternal soul.  He believed in Nihilism, which says it is a denial of existence of God any basis for knowledge or truth, or belief that there is no meaning or purpose for exhistance.  With all this said,  he thinks that man is at the center of everything and man can think as good and do just as good as God.  After all, if there was a loving God there would be no sickness, diseases, poor people, murder, lying, drunkenness, there would be peace a tranquility.  He says all ideas come from a particular perspective.  Because of this they say there are so many perspectives, it brings everybody to a different truth.  That is the reason they do not believe in absolute truth.  Unless it is their own.  They ignore evil that men commits.  God wants man to think outside himself and look to God as the absolute truth, Holy, righteous, and has all justice.  After all, could man speak into existence that which was formless and void?  Has man ever created another man out of the dust of the earth?  Man wants to tear down what God has created and live mans way.  In Jeremiah 17:9 it says “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked, who can know it”.KJV.  Only God, the Living God can know it.  God wants man to know Him for who He is and for what He has done, and what He can do in your life.  God loves His creation, and in that love is The Living God and His Son Jesus Christ. They want us to chose between life and death.  Life is believing in Christ Jesus, and death believing man that he does not need a savior.  Left to himself man will always chose evil.  Man will always choose what will benefit himself.  In 1969, Nietzsche was on Time magazine and they published his article that said “Is God coming back to life again”.  At the end of Nietzsche life, he was having a very difficult time.  Some said he had become mad, what ever it was, could it be that Nietzsche was having regrets of his life work, running down God and Christianity.  God has never left man, but wants man to work through Him to help themselves.  One fact that we should remember is, many of these people  are dead.  God is still at work, looking for those who wants something more than what this world has to offer.  There is a quote that Nietzsche said is correct, “People always talk about their faith and act according to their instincts”.

We do want to tell people of our faith in Jesus.  We tell them how much He has helped us.  Then when our problems smooth out, we pray less, we read less, less leaning on Jesus who helped in the first place.  We revert back to the self sufficient person we were before.  Do we believe that Jesus is only there for our personal problems.  In Philippians 4:19 says “And I will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus”. God says that the cattle on a thousand hills are His.  Jesus is never late.  His timing is perfect all the time.  It is our timing that is off.  Do we forget so quickly that His supply never ends.  I was surprised to find out that there are four types of instincts, Learned, inborn, innate, and unacquired. The point Nietzsche is making is that we are not willing to trust God 100% for all our needs.  If we think we need it now, we buy it.  He makes a valid point for us.
